Getting to the southern edge of Mexico City requires time. Choose your route based on your budget and group size.
| How | Time | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Train: Take Metro Line 2 (Blue) south to Tasqueña, then transfer to the Tren Ligero (Light Rail) to the terminal Xochimilco station. | 60-90 minutes from central CDMX | Metro 5 MXN + Tren Ligero 3 MXN | The most affordable and traffic-proof method. From the Xochimilco station, you can walk or take a short taxi/colectivo to a pier like Nativitas or Fernando Celada. |
| Car: Take a taxi or ride-share app (like Uber) directly to your chosen pier (e.g., Embarcadero Nuevo Nativitas or Cuemanco). | 45-90 minutes depending on traffic | 150-350 MXN one way | Highly convenient door-to-door option, especially for groups carrying coolers or food. Traffic returning to the center on weekend afternoons can be heavy. |
| Tour: Book an organized excursion through a tour agency or hotel, often combining Xochimilco with Coyoacán and the Frida Kahlo Museum. | Half day or full day | From 1,000 MXN (approx. 50 USD) per person | Includes guided transport, shared boat rental, and sometimes drinks/snacks. Ideal for solo travelers or those wanting a hassle-free day. |

Mornings and late afternoons can be chilly on the water. Bring a light jacket and wear sunscreen, as the water reflects the sun strongly.
